Brandon Bell is a second-year Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artist in 2023-24. Last season, his roles included Hunter in Rusalka and Boy in Denis & Katya. This season, his roles include Fiorello in Barber of Seville, Oreste in Iphigénie en Tauride, “Pa” Zegner in Proving Up, and Baron Douphol in La Traviata.
In the summer of 2023, Mr. Bell joined Santa Fe Opera as an Apprentice Singer, singing the Shepherd in Pelléas et Mélisande as well as singing Pastore 2 and covering 4th Pastore/1st Spirit in Monteverdi’s Orfeo. In his 2023-2024 season, Mr. Bell will appear in concert with the Santa Clara Chorale singing the Baritone solo in Margaret Bonds' Credo, will present Gregory Spears' Walden with the Cincinnati Song Initiative, and will role debut Marcello in La bohème.
In addition to his 2022-2023 season with Pittsburgh Opera, Mr. Bell joined Opera Philadelphia for the final workshop of 10 Days in a Madhouse, singing Josiah Blackwell; joined the Brooklyn Art Song Society and Salt Creek Song Festival in recitals; and was a finalist in the Duncan Williams Voice Competition.
Mr. Bell has appeared on numerous stages across the country, including Fort Worth Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, White Snake Projects, Cape Symphony, California Symphony, and Oakland Symphony. Mr. Bell has received national awards and recognition from the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, Gerda Lissner Foundation, Mondavi Center Young Artist Competition, the Orpheus National Music Competition for Vocalists, and the East Bay Opera League Young Artist Competition.
