Maire Therese Carmack is a second-year Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artist in 2021-22. This season, her roles included Third Lady in The Magic Flute.
In the 2020-21 season, she played Dorabella in Così fan tutte, Juno in Semele, and Baroness Nica in Charlie Parker's Yardbird.
A native of Seattle, Washington, Mezzo Soprano Maire Therese Carmack most recently served as a second-year Bailey Apprentice Artist with the Palm Beach Opera and as a Young Artist with the Glimmerglass Festival.
Ms. Carmack’s role credits include Empress Ottavia in L’incoronazione di Poppea and Margaret Johnson in Light in the Piazza, both with Eastman Opera Theatre; Maddalena in Rigoletto and La Zelatrice in Suor Angelica, in Urbania, Italy, with Si parla, si canta!; Flora (cover) in La Traviata, Orlofsky (study cover) in Die Fledermaus, Olga (study cover) and Larina (cover) in Eugene Onegin, Berta (study cover) in The Barber of Seville, and Witch/Mother (cover) in Hänsel und Gretel, all with Palm Beach Opera, and Marquise of Berkenfield (cover) in La Fille du Regiment with Opera Saratoga.
Ms. Carmack holds double Bachelor of Arts degrees in Philosophy and Music from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, summa cum laude (2016) and a Master of Music in Voice Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music (2018). Ms. Carmack won the Florida District of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2020, followed by third place in the Gulf Coast Region. She is the first place winner of the 2019 Rochester International Voice Competition, Encouragement Award winner in The Gerda Lissner Foundation Lieder/Song Competition in 2019, a 2019 finalist in both the Altamura-Caruso International Voice Competition and the Opera Index Vocal Competition, and second place winner of the 2018 Friends of Eastman Opera Aria Competition.
