to Monday, June 22, 2020
7pm-10pm
Location: Listen to Pittsburgh Opera's 2015 production of Carmen on WQED-FM 89.3
Tune into WQED's Concerts at Home series for a re-broadcast of our 2015 production of Carmen, recorded at the Benedum Center. Listen at 89.3 FM or at https://www.wqed.org/concertsathome.
The charms of CARMEN the opera are evident: a tuneful score from the young Georges Bizet; a heroine like no other; splashy arias and ensembles, and a sensational ending. The sizzling Israeli mezzo-soprano Rinat Shaham (Don Giovanni, 2001) returns as Carmen, and she brings two charismatic suitors: rising tenor A. J. Glueckert as Don José, and Morgan Smith, bringing a "warm and powerful baritone" to the role of Escamillo. Pittsburgh Opera 2015 Resident Artists take on the roles of: Jasmine Muhammad as Micaëla, Adelaide Boedecker as Frasquita, Corrie Stallings as Mercedes, and Phillip Gay as Zuniga. Marc Astafan directs; Antony Walker conducts the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra and Chorus.
Special thanks to all participating artists and AGMA.
