Our film pairing for As One is Boys Don't Cry.
Based on the tragic real-life story of trans man Teena Brandon (Hilary Swank), the film focuses on his male identity of Brandon Teena, who attempts to find love and himself, but falls victim to a fatal hate crime. The film was nominated for multiple awards and Swank received the Oscar for best actress for her role as the troubled Brandon, who has similar challenges to Hannah, the protagonist in As One.
